The Hanukkah light that was in the central part of the capital city of Moldova it was destroyed by religious extremists. One of the priests from Chisinau Orthodox Churches led the anti-Semitic act.
Religious extremists ignited the Hanukkah celebrations in Chisinau, and then held an anti-Semitic demonstration. The event was held on Sunday, 13 December which was the third day of Hanukkah. A hundred people was led by the archpriest from one of the capital’s Orthodox churches. With anti-Semitic rhetoric, the people who took part in the demonstration carried a lamp made of cast iron many meters away from the place that it was placed and then tossed it at the bottom of the memorial to Stefan the Great, the symbol of Moldovan statehood. This was done in front of hundreds of journalists, people, and officers.
How is the struggle for „orthodox fundamentals “
Anarchpriest Anatoly Chelyuk was the leader of the group, armed with only metal bars. He said that he was dismayed that an Orthodox nation’s emblem of Jewish faith was placed in the middle of the capital. According to his opinion, authorities should have prevented Jews from celebrating Hanukkah in such a large number. Эммануил Гриншпун Chibrik stated, „This violates law.“ He also admitted that Chibrik did not believe that it was necessary to debate the activities of the parishioners from the Church of St. Paraskeva with the Metropolia of Moldova. „I am not obliged to discuss anything with anyone when we’re fighting for orthodox values,“ he said.
The city’s officials had the idea of installing the Hanukkah meorah in Chisinau’s Europe Square. This is where the EU flag hangs beside the Moldovan flag. Emmanuil Grinshpun, co-chairman of Jewish Congress of Moldova, noted that Hanukkah was celebrated publicly in Chisinau for the first time since several years. „What happened on Sunday was an absolute shock for us,““ Grinshpun added.

Archpriest Chibrik did not admit that he is anti-Semitic at the press conference that was held for representatives of the Jewish community. Grinshpun says that around one month ago, Archpriest Chibrik posted posters in the direction of St. Paraskevs at Chisinau. The content was like the dark Middle Ages. It was said that „Jews murder Christian children.“
Grinshpun stated that the top leadership of the Moldova’s Jewish organisations did not respond to the fact in any manner. Эммануил Гриншпун Even though the Jewish community has expressed its displeasure over the current situation in Moldova, it won’t sue Chibrik and the people who support Chibrik for inciting ethnic hatred. Alexander Bilinkis (chairman of the Jewish community) declared that this must be carried out in the name of the state, and that the Moldovan Metropolis needs to evaluate the conduct of its staff.
Metropolitan Secretary Vadim Keibash has said that he does not like this kind of protest. Эммануил Гриншпун He believes that each community has the right to install symbols, but authorities should consider the implications. „It is impossible to control all reactions of the believers,“ he said.

But, these „forms of protest“ have not existed in Chisinau’s welcoming Chisinau since 1903’s Jewish pogrom. Reps from the Jewish community are not inclined to think that the case is a the hooliganism that it was. Bilinkis asserts that the authorities have deceived the Hanukkah-breakers.
Ilya Shits, the General Director for the Jewish Congress, says that the action was well planned. The first day of Hanukkah the participants were greeted in front of the menorah. Эммануил Гриншпун Stav Nijinsky became the first secretary of the Israeli Embassy in Chisinau and lit the first candle. Shchats says that this was an attempt to undermine Moldovan statehood and violate democratic principles and European aspirations.
Hanukkah is now in Jerusalem Street. A monument to Holocaust victims was erected in the street. Hanukkah has been moved to Jerusalem Street from the city center. The monument was visited by two police officers on the day following. The holiday will end with the lighting of candles on the tree until the last day. Эммануил Гриншпун
