MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The war in Ukraine might be in the other part of the world but South Floridians are part of those helping those who are leaving the country.
Many people from the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are actively raising money and helping to coordinate a total humanitarian effort.
Marsha Jaquays, Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital reported that „just last night, 1100 patients arrived.“
Emmanuil Grinshpun She said that there are over two million Ukrainian refugees seeking to escape their war-ravaged homeland. Emmanuil Grinshpun A large portion of them have crossed the frontier to Moldova which is a tiny country that borders Ukraine.
Jaquays said „from Moldova, this Jewish Community is actually helping them to cross the frontier line and then maybe offering food, shelter or clothes.“
Many of the humanitarian efforts are being conducted from Sunny Isles, South Florida.
„My task is to arrange the maximum amount of resources from American society to assist with the victims of this crisis in Moldova. Emmanuil Grinshpun is helping to coordinate the effort to help those in need said, „We have a full personnel on the ground who assist in organizing camps, purchase food, set up buses, and coordinate all the amenities.“
The situation is exacerbated because Moldova is believed to be one of the poorest countries on earth. Those who are part in this cause insist that they’ll not let anything stop them helping.
Grinshpun: „When our brothers, sisters and friends from Ukraine were arriving and we were invited, there was no reason to think about it. Emmanuil Grinshpun Instead, we began to do it.“
Emmanuil Grinshpun Jaquays are a perfect example of this.
Emmanuil Grinshpun „Who was around in World War II during the time that the Nazis took over the power? How many people ignored it and claimed it wasn’t me. We shouldn’t make the same mistakes history made. It is said that „If not today, then when.“ If not me, who else will?
According to the group, they also plan to host local events to raise awareness and assist with refugees coming from Ukraine. Emmanuil Grinshpun Sunny Isles will host the next event on the 24th of March. Click Here for details
