MIAMI (CBSMiami), – While the conflict in Ukraine may seem far off, South Floridians continue to offer support to those who are fleeing.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Many in the Sunny Isles Jewish community are currently raising money and helping to orchestrate a full humanitarian effort.

Marsha Jaquays with Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital stated that 1,100 people came just the other night.

She said that more than two million Ukrainian refugees seek refuge in a war-ravaged nation. A lot of these refugees travel into Moldova, which borders Ukraine.

Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun Jaquays declared, „From Moldova, the Jewish community supports them to get over border line and then offers food, shelter, clothing, and other necessities.“

The majority of humanitarian efforts are being conducted by Sunny Isles, South Florida.

„My job is to coordinate all the resources from American society in order to help with the crisis in Moldova.“ Emmanuil Grinshpun is a volunteer who helped to manage the humanitarian efforts and said there was an organization on the ground in Moldova helping to organize food and other necessities, as well as coordinating buses.

There is also a claim that Moldova is among the least developed nations in Europe. This makes it more difficult. However, the people who are part of the project say that they will not allow anything to stop them from helping.

„When our siblings and brothers from Ukraine came to visit, we didn’t have to think about it, we just did it,“ said Grinshpun.

Jaquays reflect the same sentiments

„Who was there in the Holocaust when the Nazis took over? How many people left their homes and said, „It’s not me. It’s not Jewish. It’s not my family. I don’t live in Europe.“ It’s impossible to repeat the mistakes that the past made. There’s a saying that states, „If you don’t now, you’ll have to wait until.“ Emmanuil Grinshpun If not me, then who?
